10 Stunning Fall Tourist Destinations in South Korea That Foreigners Love

Fall in South Korea is a magical time when nature bursts into vibrant shades of red, orange, and gold. The crisp weather and stunning landscapes make it the perfect season for exploration. As a foreigner living in Korea, I’ve discovered some amazing autumn spots that you’ll want to add to your bucket list. Here are 10 fall destinations that are especially popular with visitors from abroad!

1. Nami Island (남이섬)

Nami Island, near Seoul, is a picturesque spot known for its tree-lined pathways that turn into golden and fiery red tunnels in autumn. Famous for the K-drama *Winter Sonata*, it’s a romantic escape for couples and nature lovers alike.

Tip: Rent a bike to explore the island or take a leisurely stroll while sipping on warm Korean tea.

2. Seoraksan National Park (설악산국립공원)

Seoraksan is a must-visit for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. The dramatic peaks, dense forests, and vibrant fall foliage create a breathtaking scene. Even if you’re not into hiking, the cable car ride offers incredible views.

Best Time to Visit: Mid to late October.

3. Jeonju Hanok Village (전주한옥마을)

Jeonju’s Hanok Village combines traditional Korean culture with stunning autumn vibes. Stroll through narrow lanes lined with hanok (traditional Korean houses) and enjoy fall-themed snacks like pumpkin rice cakes and sweet chestnuts.

Tip: Don’t miss the traditional bibimbap while in Jeonju!

4. Gyeongju (경주)

Known as “the museum without walls,” Gyeongju is steeped in history and becomes even more beautiful in the fall. Visit Bulguksa Temple and the surrounding hills, which are covered in colorful autumn leaves.

The evening illumination at Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond is magical.

5. Hwagae Cherry Blossom Road (화개십리벚꽃길)

While this spot is famous for spring blossoms, the fall foliage is equally stunning. The serene paths lined with ancient trees make for a peaceful and unforgettable experience.

Tip: Visit the nearby Hwagae Market for local treats.

6. Andong Hahoe Folk Village (안동하회마을)

Step back in time in Andong’s UNESCO-listed Hahoe Folk Village. In the fall, the surrounding landscape is a painter’s dream, with bright leaves framing traditional houses and the Nakdong River.

Must-Try Experience: Witness the Hahoe Mask Dance Festival if your visit aligns with the season.

7. Jirisan National Park (지리산국립공원)

Jirisan’s expansive views and untouched beauty make it one of Korea’s top fall destinations. Whether you’re a serious hiker or just looking to soak in nature, this park has something for everyone.

Fall foliage here lasts until early November, perfect for late travelers!

8. Seoul Forest (서울숲)

A tranquil escape in the heart of Seoul, this urban forest is a favorite among locals and tourists. It’s especially gorgeous in the fall with maple leaves creating a vibrant canopy.

You might spot deer wandering through the park!

9. Naejangsan National Park (내장산국립공원)

Naejangsan is often called the “crown jewel of Korea’s fall foliage.” The park is famous for its fiery red maple leaves and scenic temples like Baekyangsa and Naejangsa.

Tip: Arrive early to avoid the crowds and take plenty of photos!

10. The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원)

This beautifully landscaped garden near Gapyeong transforms into a kaleidoscope of colors in autumn. It’s a peaceful retreat where you can enjoy the best of Korean horticulture.

Fun Idea: Combine this visit with a trip to Nami Island and Petite France for a full-day autumn adventure.
